What is bundling?  "Bundles" are groups of standards arranged together to create the endpoints for units of instruction. Bundling is just one step in a curriculum development process; many other steps are required to create instructional materials designed for the NGSS.

Next Gen Science is "bundling" the science standards into a THEMATIC model and a TOPICAL model. Both models are excellent examples of how the standards might be bundled before a local curriculum is built.  After much thought and consideration, ABC has decided to use the TOPICAL model to organize our resources and materials at the K-5 level. Why bundle?  Bundling is a helpful step in implementing standards because it helps students see connections between concepts and can allow more efficient use of instructional time. Using one of the example models from NGSS can save districts many man hours, so teachers can get right down to planning, selecting, and organizing their instructional materials!
